Thoughts from The Skirt Lady...
Hello all!
For those of you who don't know me personally, I want to take a moment to introduce myself and my mission. My name is Sarah Grace Costner (I go by "Grace"), I am 28 years old, and a mom of 3 children. My children are 2, 4 and 7. I fell in love at 17 with this amazing guy, who 10 years later, still has my heart.
Starting marriage at 18 is getting pretty uncommon in Western society, so I get some shocked looks when I tell people I meet how young I was when we got married! I would like to share some thoughts on marriage from time to time in this blog to discuss common topics that young wives in particular may find helpful.
I have an associate's degree in English and creative writing, which has helped me learn to articulate what it is I want to say and to explain myself a little better than I did back when I was a teen, scribbling down love stories, writing stories of girls who were slaves and princesses and heroines and the brave young men who stole their hearts ;).
Some things I have learned over the years is that heroes don't just exist in fairy tales, minds and hearts can be mended by grace and kindness and the love of a good husband is a blessing beyond words. Also, that each woman is unique and has her own gifts and talents. There are Martha's, Mary Magdalene's, Lydia's and Deborah's, all just as important in their own right, but perhaps contributing in different ways to God's kingdom. I have also learned to show others the same grace that I have received. "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" (John 8:7).
My husband often laughs at my grandiose plans to change the world and help impoverished women and girls find a better life. I have a fierce passion for underprivileged women and children and those who have experienced abuse. I am currently looking into ways to help women and girls in the country of India in particular. My husband and I have discussed adoption many times and Lord willing we would love to welcome a child/children into our home one day, and give them the love our biological children feel from us.
My modest clothing business started over a year ago, when I zealously borrowed a sewing machine and taught myself to sew over spring break from school. I had a desire to contribute financially, while also being home with my children. I had been praying for something I could do to make this dream come true. I was amazed at the amount of ladies that sought me out, telling me how hard it was to find modest skirts (denim in particular) for themselves and their daughters.
Through a desire to help ladies and girls like them (including my daughters and I) find modest, attractive and affordable clothing, my company was born. The demand soon was more than I could keep up with by sewing, and I made the decision to evolve into an online boutique. The Skirt Lady LLC provides modest clothing for ladies and girls, with options for those with various heights and body types to be able to find apparel that upholds modesty and femininity!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog and may God bless you and yours! Stay tuned for more to come soon...
